Collins
Elementary opened in August, 1989. The building is designed for an
enrollment of 650 students. The building is air conditioned and
handicapped accessible. Technologically advanced, the school has networked
computers in each classroom, two computer labs and twelve work stations in
the library. The mission of the staff and community of Collins Elementary
School is to foster academic growth for all students, nurture a respect for
others and an acceptance of differences in people, develop the ability to
accept responsibility for their own actions and peacefully solve problems.
The mission at
Collins Elementary is to provide every child the opportunity to experience
academic, social, and emotional success in a positive environment of open
communication and high expectations. The school committees analyze
data to identify any performance gaps in certain subgroups (gender,
ethnicity, special education, gifted and talented, free/reduced lunch).
Strengths and areas of concern are pinpointed. Priority needs,
objectives, strategies, and activities are developed through the
Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) to address the needs of all
students at Collins. Additionally, a Limited English Proficiency, LEP,
teacher is employed to better meet the needs of our LEP students and their
families. |
